# Paperscale > Paperscale is a free web app that turns an image into a print-ready PDF at an exact physical size in millimetres, on one A4 sheet or tiled across several A4 sheets that are joined into one picture. It runs entirely in the browser: the image is never uploaded, and there is no account, server-side processing or API. Paperscale is used for posters, heat transfer onto fabric, stencils, sewing and craft patterns, and anything else that must come out at a known real-world size on a home printer. How it works: 1. Load an image (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP) by choosing a file, dragging it in, or pasting it. 2. Choose a mode. One sheet: set the size (5 to 300 mm per side) and the position on an A4 page. Multiple sheets: set the final width or height (10 to 5000 mm), or pick the largest size that fits on 2, 3, 4, 6, 9 or 12 sheets; the image is split into a grid of up to 60 A4 sheets. 3. Download the PDF and print it at 100% (Actual size) with "Fit to page" off. Cut along the crop marks and join the sheets by their labels (A1, A2, B1, ...), shown with a small map of the grid. Options: - Crop to exact size: set width and height independently and choose which part of the image is printed. - Seams: in multiple-sheet mode the image can be dragged to move the seams off important parts, which may add a sheet. - Sheet orientation: auto, portrait or landscape. - Joining: butt joint, with 0 to 8 mm of image printed past the cut line (bleed), or overlap, with a 3 to 30 mm strip that the next sheet is glued over. - Mirror, for heat-transfer paper on light fabric; black and white; crop marks and sheet labels on or off. - Printer: presets with unprintable margins taken from manufacturers' data sheets (HP DeskJet, ENVY, Smart Tank, OfficeJet Pro, LaserJet and Color LaserJet models; Brother HL-L2310D, L2350DW, L2370DN and L2375DW), or custom margins. - Calibration: a calibration sheet with 100 mm scales checks that the printer is not scaling the page and measures its offset, which is then entered as Shift X and Shift Y. - The status bar shows the effective resolution: below 100 dpi looks soft, 150 dpi and above is sharp. The PDF embeds the image at 150 to 300 dpi. - Cmd+P / Ctrl+P prints the sheets straight from the browser; the downloaded PDF is the more reliable path. Limits: A4 paper only; at most 60 sheets; one image at a time. The interface is in English and Ukrainian. The user must accept the terms (the tool is provided as is, and the author is not liable for the printed result) before downloading or printing. ## App - [Paperscale](https://paperscale.app/): the web app itself; an interactive page that needs JavaScript, with the help text in its "?" dialog ## Optional - [pdf-lib license](https://paperscale.app/vendor/pdf-lib.LICENSE.txt): MIT license of pdf-lib, the library that writes the PDFs
